Continued Education for Doctors

We are greatly interested in an on-going, high-level education of our medical staff. Every Wednesday mornings, our doctors discuss selected papers of the literature. Recent research is discussed in alteration with milestone-papers, the latter selected throughout the evolution of modern gastroenterology. The recent papers form the so-called Journal Club (1), while the milestone-papers – accompanied by associated modern literature – form the so-called Bible Class-section (2). Rotating weekly, one of our doctors circulate a publication as the Paper of the Week (3) – the spectrum ranges from papers referring to current cases to papers of special interests.

Apart from theoretical knowledge, we also want to share and teach clinical findings. To achieve this, we have our Clinical Picture-section (4) where rare as well, as classical endoscopical, sonographical and radiological findings with short explanatory comments were circulated. Furthermore, we have an interdisciplinary meeting with our gastrointestinal pathologists to get insight in their findings. Apart from presenting typical cases to teach our residents, these Histo-Rounds (5) also provide the opportunity to discuss complicated cases with divergence in macroscopic and microscopic findings.

Also as part of our continuous education, we have an open complication policy. Procedure-related and decision-related complications were collected, analysed and internally published. While affected patients were openly informed, we decided to refrain from hosting this section due to anonymity.

The sections 1-5 are accessible by following the links. All papers discussed in section 1-3 are listed, and provided with the corresponding PubMed-link. PDF-files are password protected and, due to copyright issues, only accessible for institution members.
